Students started out by choosing a famous person (had to be dead) that impacted our lives in some way. Next, students took notes (first time ever taking notes), turning notes into sentences and paragraphs, editing, and eventually writing a speech. Students then have to memorize their speeches, dress in character, and present speeches to peers and parents. That may sound easy, but trust me...it isn't. All of that is a lot of work! Today was our presentation day! I was so nervous, but the kids were awesome! We had three preformances, so they were tired out by the end of the day. Before we started, my Cooperating Teacher introduced me to the parents (over 80 attended...in a school were there is little to no parent involvement) and ask them to give me a hand for all my hard work. Then I explained the project and the presentations began. It was nice, because I finally felt so relieved to be standing there...almost done!
Lately I have had back spasms (I'm sure caused by the stress of this project). I have also had teacher dreams (you teachers know what I am talking about!). I dream about school and everything that can go wrong. Ick! Well, all that is about to end. I am excited for my sleep tonight...hopefully absent of "teacher dreams!" Here are a few pictures of the project:
Turning notes into sentences and paragraphs.
Memorize. Memorize. Practice. Practice.

Albert Einstein (Scientist)
Gandhi (Yes...he shaved his head for this project! Don't believe me? Look at the first picture in this post, he is the same little blonde haired boy!)
Benjamin Franklin (Inventor/Statesman)
Louis Pasteur (Inventer/Scientist)
Amelia Earhart (pilot)
Elizabeth Blackwell (first woman doctor)

Lindsay, I love this post! Yay for being done with a huge unit, we're finishing up State Reports, and I'm feeling the same way! Anyway, My favorite part was the part where you said you're having teacher dreams (I totally had those the first week of school) and back spasms. So weird cause when I student taught, I threw my back out TWICE. That's right, 2 days I had to walk hunched over all day, it was terrible. However it hasn't happened since, so it much be some weird symptom of student teaching. . .glad I'm not alone on that one!
hahaha. I love the ghandi outfit. Kids are so funny
Are you with fourth grade right now? Lindsey just had her wax museum yesterday. There is a ton of prep involved. I am always so grateful to the teachers for their hard work with this and every big project. I had laugh because it's obvious we are in Utah. Joshua was Brigham Young last year and Lindsey was Thomas S. Monson this year. Most of the kids choose LDS people. There are always a few Steve Youngs, Emma Smiths and Gordon B. Hinckleys. So funny. Sorry to hear about your back. I hope you feel better soon. Love ya!
What a fun project! Your experience is bringing back memories of my student teaching at the high school. My work study was on the Russian Revolution. The kids enjoyed it, and I enjoyed it when I was done. I remember the teacher dreams, as well. The worst one involved a school shooting. Horrible! I love teaching and miss it a lot!
Hurrah, what a relief! Way to go! Oh goodness, you just must be relishing the relaxation....w/that huge burden off your shoulders. Teaching students to do those types of things for the first time would be so hard. I'm sorry we couldn't make it to the presentation, we really wanted to. I'm glad it went so well. : )
