Pumpkin Days

Last year, David's parents grew lots of huge pumpkins in their garden. David and I decided that we would do a little carving. The first carving was the witch and haunted house on the right...then we got a little more creative. We decided it would be awesome to do a patriotic pumpkin, especially since it seems there is less and less patriotism these days. We went on the internet and found some free stencils (George Washington, Abe Lincoln, United We Stand and the American Flag). Then we put them all together.
It took quite awhile to do all the carving. David spent hours and hours. I mostly watched since I was about 6 and a half months prego. I did get to clean out the insides before we started (ewww!) Anyway, David probably spent over 10 hours on this pumpkin! It turned out amazing!! The pictures don't do it justice.
We took both pumpkins to the church trunk or treat and got 1st and 2nd place in the pumpkin carving competition! Everyone was amazed at David's work...including me.
This year we are going to be doing more pumpkins! One is going to be of the Marchant family (David, Connor and I). I am super excited. We already made the stencils on Photoshop! The other pumpkin will be a suprise. I will make sure to post the finished results in about a month!

Holy Moly, those are amazing! Those are the coolest pumpkin carvings I have EVER seen. That is incredible! Really! Wow! Did you say you're 6 months pregnant? If you are- I did NOT know that!

Oh Amy's so funny. You sure don't LOOK six months pregnant m'dear! Those are truly incredible punkins. Where can you get the stencils? Did you use special tools to carve with?

I was 6 months pregnant last year when we carved these pumpkins. No...I am not currently pregnant! If you google pumpkin stencils or pumpkin carving patterns you can find some free ones. Most of the fancy ones cost money. They are pictures that are black, white and gray. You fully cut out the white, shave the skin off on the gray parts, and leave the black part alone. We just used our kitchen knives and spoons. I think we are going to buy a little carving set this year. That will probably save David lots of time!

Cool pumpkins. I never have the patience to work on them that long. Just the plain old smile with a tooth or two...I guess just like a hillbilly.

You guys need to enter some bigger competitions. I'm sure they exist somewhere. Or maybe, since Grandma is on the activities committee, you can tell her the prizes for the pumpkin contest this year should be really big, like dinner for 2 at The Electric Station.....tehe....jk.
